Building / Zoning Department
The Building Department is the Village of Red Hook’s Code of Enforcement Division, which is an entity that is required by the State of New York. The purpose of the Department is to provide protection from hazards of fire, inadequate building construction and improper maintenance in residential and non-residential buildings through the enforcement of Local and State Codes, Rules and Regulations.
The Village Clerk works with the Mayor and Board of Trustees to oversee all administrative responsibilities of the Village of Red Hook and is responsible for maintaining custody of the Village seal, books, and all official reports.
The Village of Red Hook Highway Department is responsible for the continued maintenance, repair, and construction of Village roads and sidewalks. In addition, the Village of Red Hook Highway Department is involved with various public works projects such as: construction and water projects, providing garbage and recycling services, collecting scrap metal, and maintaining public parks and spaces. The Highway Department also works on event preparations and setup and coordinates cleanup after Village events.
The mission of the Red Hook Police Department is to maintain social order and provide professional law enforcement services to citizens in our community, within prescribed ethical, budgetary, and constitutional constraints.
The Village of Red Hook started planning for a public sewer in 2006. In 2021, the final sewer plan was adopted and construction began in the winter of 2022. Only residents within the sewer district will receive the service and ensuing charges. Charges will be included on the quarterly water bill of sewer district customers. This page will be updated with further department details once the Sewer project has moved from construction into operations.
The Village Treasurer maintains custody of all funds and accounts, and is responsible for the financial operations of the Village budget.
